On Thursday, March 20th, 2025 – at Miva bistro & wine bar at 22 Strojarska Street in Zagreb – wine lovers gathered to enjoy specially selected wines from Slovenia’s TILIA estate – House of Pinot. Guests were introduced to TILIA owner and renowned oenologist, Matjaž Lemut – Pinot Noir expert and esteemed oenologist-consultant – and executive director of Miva, Tin Mohor, with the support of Gordon Mohor, co-founder of Miva. “TILIA estate has been present on the Croatian market since 2004. During the last 10 years with Miva, our Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir collection has grown. We are happy about that,” said Lemut.
Attendees were welcomed with sparkling wine, a rosé brut nature, the traditional method EL – Emperor of Love. As its name suggests, it is in praise of love. Like all of TILIA estate wines, it was made with respect towards nature and with consumer tastes in mind. Lemut’s philosophy of winegrowing and winemaking – MyBio – is rooted in authenticity, balance, experience, and knowledge, striving to minimize the use of oenological substances while remaining a boutique winery.
Guests enjoyed six wines – Pinot Gris, Sauvignon, Nostra (a white blend of 50% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Gris and 20% Sauvignon Blanc), and three different Pinot Noirs: Vipava Valley, Estate, and White Label – paired with scrumptious small plates as follows.
Pinot Gris 2024
Sauvignon 2024
Marinated Kvarner Scampi with Parsley Mayonnaise and Citrus Gel
Nostra 2023
Saffron Risotto with Monkfish
Vipava Valley Pinot Noir 2023
Fried Arancini Stuffed with Slow-Roasted Pulled Oxtail
Estate Pinot Noir 2022
White Label Pinot Noir 2020
Duck Breast / Millefoglie (Mille-feuille) Potatoes / Demi-Glace Sauce with Berries
Lemut explained that Pinot Noir is not an ordinary red variety, but rather, a very creative one. That is why he is challenged. TILIA estate has around 17 different Pinot Noirs in the cellar, which are offered in their ‘Burgundy cave’.
“TILIA estate is proud to cooperate with Miva, one of the most serious wine merchants in the Republic of Croatia. They are importers of the Moët Hennessy program, which includes the world's most famous Champagnes: Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, Ruinart, Krug, Dom Perignon, so we are honored that our brand, TILIA estate, is part of Miva’s fine portfolio of wines,” added Lemut.
At the conclusion of the tasting, Lemut announced the launch of Out of the Blue Pinot Noir, a project in collaboration with artists Azad Karim, Kurdish academic painter and creator of the great triptych, which is the symbol of TILIA’s cellar (Dobravlje, Vipavska dolina); Jaka Babnik, a regionally recognized photographer; and designer Žare Kerin, creative director of Future, who has worked with some of the most respected domestic and international brands and won more than 250 awards. Let’s not forget nature's role in winegrowing, too, of course.
Out of the Blue Pinot Noir – an exclusive limited edition release of only 1,000 bottles – will be for sale starting April 17th.
