”Brač stone. It’s so special and inspiring. Some turn it into a song, some a sculpture, we into wine.” – Stina
Located in Croatia on the Dalmatian island of Brač in the town of Bol, Stina has a long and storied history in Croatia – established over 120 years ago in 1903 as Dalmatia’s first wine cooperative in this coastal vineyard region. In 1909 Stina won its first gold medal in Paris at an international wine competition. A century later, Stina remodeled the old cellar into one of the region’s finest.
Today Stina farms 78 hectares (193 acres) – including 21 hectares in the historic Stipančić Vineyard that dates to the 15th century. There they grow one of Croatia’s indigenous black grapes, Plavac mali – with some vines being 20-40 years old. In their other vineyard, Grabice (55 hectares), they grow Croatian varieties like Pošip and Vugava as well as international varieties like Chardonnay, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah. The vineyards are located on steep hillsides on the south side of Brač – some as high as 500 meters (1640 feet) in elevation. Both vineyards are hand harvested.
Stina Cuvée Red 2022
This rich red will rock your world
On the wine’s label Stina writes, “It takes an artist to create a wine of opulent flavor from a field of stones.” It does. A luxurious cuvée of 70% Plavac mali, 10% Merlot, 10% Syrah, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, Stina leaves no stone unturned in this work of gustatory art – abundant with bold flavors like dried berries, peppery spice, and stony, salty minerality that comes from their rocky seaside vineyards – a sumptuous sip of Brač. Stone-cold delicious.
