Located in Hungary’s Tokaj-Hegyalja region on the border between the villages of Tokaj and Tarcal, family owned and operated Péter Pincészet five hectares of vineyards, including Thurzó, Mézes-mály, Bige, Mogyorós, Mester-Völgy, Lónyai, and Kövesd.
From these come native Hungarian varieties like Furmint, Hárslevelű, Sárgamuskotály, Kövérszőlő, Zéta, and Kabar made in a variety of styles – dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet, and sweet. "Tokaj is my region,” says Péter Ákos. “It is home. I know every nook and cranny, I select the most promising fruit with strong hands and careful care, collecting the warmth of the sun's rays and the power of the wind, refining what nature has given us into wine.”
Péter 'Mézes-Mály' Furmint 2022, Tokaj, Hungary
Fabulous Furmint from one of Tokaj's First Growth vineyards
Péter's Furmint hails from Tarcal – a single lot from the Mézes-mály Vineyard – considered a First Growth Tokaji plot. The wine is fermented in tank, then matured in a combination of new and used oak barrels, resulting in a balance of roundness and freshness. Floral, fruity, and spicy, this Furmint shows layer upon layer of stone fruits flavors like ripe white peach and juicy apricot that culminate in a long, refreshing finish.
Péter ’Mézes-Mály' Hárslevelű 2022, Tokaj, Hungary
First-rate, First Growth Hárslevelű
Péter's Hárslevelű – also from Tarcal – is fermented in tank, then matured in a combination of new and used oak barrels, resulting in softly textured, yet mouthwatering example of Hárslevelű overflowing with juicy flavors like crisp apple and ripe peach accompanied by delicate creaminess.
Péter Sweet Szamorodni 2019 Tokaj, Hungary
This sweet Szamorodni is just what the wine doctor ordered
From an excellent vintage in Tokaj comes Péter's Szamorodni – a blend of Hárslevelű, Zéta, Kabar, Kövérszőlő – sweet, silky-smooth, and replete with flavors like ripe, juicy peaches, dried apricot and honeyed citrus – with just a smidge of vanilla and toasty oak notes from long aging in barrel. Layered and complex, this Szamorodni is both luscious and fresh – and seriously over delivers for the SRP of $25.
Péter 6 Puttonyos Aszú 2013, Tokaj, Hungary
Luscious and decadent, this Aszú is an unfettered luxury
From a premier vintage in Tokaj comes this decadent Aszú – a blend of Furmint, Hárslevelű, Kabar – rich and full-bodied with flavors like dried nectarine, apple compote, and candied orange peel – plus a hint of oak from barrel aging. Creamy, sweet and luscious, it lingers longingly on the palate – everything you want in an Aszú. Pair this with equally rich foods like foie gras and pungent blue cheeses.
