Croatian Wine of the Week – Iločki Podrumi Quality Graševina 2023
Succulent, soft, savory – your summery sip of Slavonia
Iločki Podrumi is an integral part of the city of Ilok’s history – with its original cellars dating back to 1450 when Nikola Iločki built a wine cellar under his castle.
Today Iločki Podrumi is one of Croatia’s four largest wineries. It farms 360 hectares (890 acres) of vineyards in Principovac and Vukovo – and partners with other local vineyards – located on the Croatian side of the Fruška Gora plateau at the base of the Danube River.
Iločki Podrumi is perhaps most known for its award-winning portfolio of Traminac ranging from dry to sweet, but it is also a flagship producer of Croatia’s most planted variety, Graševina, like their classic offering available from Croatian Premium Wine in the U.S.
Iločki Podrumi Quality Graševina 2023
Succulent, soft, savory – your summery sip of Slavonia
From a Srijem-area vineyard in Vukovo comes Iločki Podrumi’s classic, thirst-quenching Graševina – a light and bright white – a true delight. Dripping with mouthwatering flavors like crisp green apple, tangy citrus, and juicy peach, it is an ideal apéritif and accompaniment to light appetizers and salads – or pair it with grilled, mild-flavored white fish and veggies like the dinner I enjoyed at the winery’s Old Cellar restaurant.
